AchieveMents: Atghara Jyoti Mohila Udyog (AJMU) led by women is a registered NGO under Society Act. (Regn. No. S/1L/34684 Dated 02/02/06). It is run to ameliorate the socio-economic status of the underprivileged women and their wards. However the organization started its operation since 7th March 1992 under the active leadership of Mrs. Nurani Islam who after prolonged struggle against poverty and various social barriers, established this organization from its burgeoning state to the present position for the betterment and welfare of the downtrodden women of the community. The Organisation has 8 work stations (i.e. Bidhannagar at Kolkata and Atghara, Hatiara, Jamalpara, Lauhati, Narayanpur, Patharghata, Raigachi at North 24 Pgs.) besides the Head Office at Atghara. We are also working at 44 villages in Rajarhat Block (North 24 Parganas), Bhangar Block (South 24 Parganas), Rajarhat / Gopalpur Municipality areas and Kolkata areas. The organization has brought about the proliferation of its activities as mentioned hereunder:
1 CAPACITY BUILD-UP
At present 54 tailoring centres are functioning with 1040 trainees. More than 3000 trainees have successfully completed their courses and are engaged in various income generating ventures. The organization has also arranged for free training programmes on soft toys making / food and fruit processing for these underprivileged women community. Our products have received an excellent marketing.
2 EDUCATION
Presently, two formal schools (upto the standard of Class III at Atghara (01.09.06) & Raigachi (on 02/06/08) North 24 pgs.) with a complement of 215 students and 12 Hut schools for adult education are functioning in the name of Atghara Jyoti Public Schools. The schools are awarded with special certificate of Honour ââ¬ÅSchool that Caresââ¬Â by The Telegraph newspaper for consecutive three years i.e. 2008, 2009 (with cash prizes) & 2010.
3 MICRO FINANCE
started with two SHGs known as Suryamukhi & Gandharaj, the proliferation of the activities as given below in the field of micro finance, justifies the massive contribution of Smt. Nurani Islam in building up this organization (as per the statistics of 31st July, 2010):

4 HEALTH SERVICES
Although the prime aims of the organization is to improve socio-economic status of the poor women but our effort cannot evoke better result if proper health care services are not provided to these women. Accordingly AJMU organizes various health-care camps from where, apart from providing services of renowned doctors, free medicines are also supplied. Besides, free blood donor cards are also distributed to these women at their dire necessity.
