Hope Foundation for Innovative Research Science and Technology Key Issues and
Operational Areas, Major Activiities & Achivements
Operational Districts: Bangalore,Vellore
Operational States: KARNATAKA, TAMIL NADU
AchieveMents: ââ¬Â¢ Submitted 5 patent applications on bio-pesticide formulations in Chennai patent office.
ââ¬Â¢ Developed methods of organic vegetable seedlings production and trained hundreds of farmers in Karnataka.
ââ¬Â¢ Developed a protocol of organic liquid formulation of Trichoderma viride ââ¬â a biocontrol fungus. This formulation was evaluated in the farmers field conditions for the management of nematodes and pathogenic fungus attacking Tomato, brinjal, okra and banana. The results are very encouraging. The formulation was distributed to hundreds of farmers in villages around Kolar, Doddaballapur and Chamarajanagar
ââ¬Â¢ Standardized a method of production of organic formulation of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungusââ¬â Glomus mosseae.
ââ¬Â¢ This information is very critical for up-scaling the technology of mass production of Am fungus. This formulation was tested for its efficacy as a bio-fertiliser and bio-pesticide on various vegetable crops. All these formulations are highly useful in the organic farming, intensive farming and also in sustainable farming of crops.
ââ¬Â¢ Most of the farmers are using chemical pesticides indiscriminately. This has very adverse effect of the agro-eco systems. Hence standardization of eco-friendly methods and sustainable organic farming methods are very important for reducing the cost of cultivations of crops, increasing the productivity on sustainable basis, reduction in the use of chemical pesticides and further chemical residues in the food products.
ââ¬Â¢ All these methods are very important because many people are suffering from various health problems and cancer is becoming such a serious problem among many Indians because of the food consumption laced with the heavy doses of chemical residues. Achievements in the project include generation of awareness among the farmers by conducting demonstrations on the use of bio-pesticides (for seed treatment, nursery bed treatment, Farm Yard Manure (FYM) and vermin-compost enrichment) bio-fertilizers and also crop specific micro-nutrient mixtures in the farming systems
ââ¬Â¢ Bio-pesticides such as Pseudomonas fluorescens, Trichoderma harzianum, Paecilomyces lilacinus , kg, bio-fertilizers like Azotobacter , Azospirillum, and Banana specific micronutrient mixture, were distributed to hundreds of S.C and S.T farmers. This is against the total project target of 1150 SC/ST farmers in the chamrajnagar district .
ââ¬Â¢ Undertook monitoring of the farmers of Chamrajnagar, who were distributed with bio-pesticides and bio-fertilizers and the impact on the cropping system. All the farmers used the bio-pesticides for enriching FYM and applied to the paddy nursery, banana, sugar cane, brinjal and tomato crops.
ââ¬Â¢ Installed a solar power generator in Chamarajanagar and because of this 70 people ââ¬â poorest of the poor got benefitted
ââ¬Â¢ Installed night soil based Bio-gas unit (geo membrane biogas plant) at Narayanpur, Chhattisgarh with a capacity of 9-12 kg per day bio-gas production capacity.
ââ¬Â¢ This bio-gas unit has met the fuel requirement of 80 tribal girl children of 5 years to 15 years old.
ââ¬Â¢ Also Installed a solar power generator in Narayanapur which is 80 tribal girl children and distributed solar lamps to 50 tribal families in Narayanapur, Chhattisgarh
