AchieveMents: JAN SHIKSHAN SANSTHAN, Shimoga has covered Seven Taluks and has benefited around 60000 beneficiaries through its various vocational skill training and Life Enrichment Education programmes in a span of 15 years. The beneficiaries include men and women, illiterates, neo literates, SC STs Minorities, Widows, Physically challenged and economically oppressed classes of the society of Shimoga District.
JSS has bagged a record number of awards for its outstanding work in the field of skill development, some of which are

3. Lakshmi N Menon Award for outstanding achievement in Womens Literacy Programme 2008
4. NLMA UNESCO Award 2010
5. JSS, Shimoga has secured 88.50 % in the External Evaluation conducted by Indian Institute of Management Bangalore.
6. The National Literacy Mission Authority has appointed Smt S.Y.Arunadevi, Director, JSS as the Executive Member from June 2010 to 2012.
Activities are important to generate awareness among the beneficiaries and the community in which Shimoga JSS has organized a number of activities on the occasion of World Health Day, World Environment Day, World Population Day, International Literacy day etc On these occasions the JSS have organized different activities like medical camps, awareness, exhibitions, Skits, Rallies, etc throughout the district in which the State Government officers, medical experts and educationists have participated.
Apart from traditional employable courses, the JSS organizes some nontraditional courses also which have given the beneficiaries more economic benefits. They include Dollu Kunitha, Saloon Maintenance, Women Security Guard, Yakshagana Folk Art etc For example
DOLLU KUNITHA a folk drum dance which used to be traditionally done by men as the dancers has to carry heavy drums. JSS has trained women group for this dance which has been widely appreciated. This group also travels all over the state and charge between Rs.15,000 to Rs 20,000 per programme. This group has got Vishwa Chethana, Mayura and Karnataka Bhushana Awards.
Teaching learning materials In all the training programmes organized by the JSS, the curriculum has been prepared with the help of resource persons. The curriculum is a blend of the standardized curriculum of DAE and the local needs. The JSS has prepared teaching learning materials for a number of vocational courses. This important step helps for strengthening the knowledge of persons undergoing training. As part of Literacy linked vocational education, the JSS separately prepared PRIMERS for 25 courses through which basic literacy is imparted to nonliterate beneficiaries
Karnataka Open School In order to encourage continuing education, particularly for females, coaching classes are organized for the economically poor discontinued students to enable them to sit for 10 standard examination conducted by KOS.
Enrolment and awareness on Pradhana Manthri Suraksha Bheema Yojana around 3000 trainees enrolled their names for the PMSBY and around 1200 for Jan Dhan Yojana
Finally most of the beneficiaries are engaged in productive activities with a minimum capitalization and earn handsome revenue through production centers, own shop, parlor etc In Beautician sector, 50percentage of the beneficiaries are opened well established parlors, Health spa
