AchieveMents: The Karnataka Health Promotion Trust (KHPT) was formed with a vision to empower marginalised communities to improve their health and reduce the incidence of disease. KHPT has been implementing various health programs in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and coastal Andhra Pradesh. Evidence-based programming; rapid scale up, working in close collaboration with the government at national, state and district level and community participation have been our hallmarks. The core team of directors in KHPT include experts in public health, epidemiology, demography, statistics, communication, training, monitoring and evaluation, NGO management and program implementation, human resource development and finance. KHPT has worked in the area of HIV prevention, care and support projects, addressing gender based violence, TB care and control and improving maternal and neo natal child health in Karnataka. KHPT has implemented a range of community based health interventions in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan. United Nations Trust Fund to End Violence against Women (UNTFEVAW) has provided KHPT with a project grant from 2011-2014, to address violence against women in sex work in 15 districts of Karnataka. This project addresses violence against women in sex work who experience violence from husband, intimate partners, family, clients, goons, police, society, media, etc and looks at the interface of violence with HIV. The project considers violence as a human rights issue & is implementing the project through community based organizations of female sex workers. Sukshema: Maternal and Child Health (MNCH) (2010-2015) The MNCH project will strengthen existing government health responses towards improving maternal, newborn and child health in 8 underserved districts of North Karnataka. The strategy focuses on expanding the availability and accessibility of critical health interventions for rural populations, improving their quality and coverage, and also increasing demand for maternal, neonatal and child health care services. Sabala is a one year project funded by the World Bank to improve the quality of life for adolescent girls of vulnerable communities of FSW, Devadasiââ¬â¢s and SC community in 72 villages of Bijapur district. Sampoorna (2009-2013) is a project supported by Global Fund to fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria-VII. It seeks to increase HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support for residents of 800 villages across eight high-prevalence districts in Karnataka. Sampoorna currently reaches 6,000 high risk populations, 68,000 vulnerable men and women, 15,000 bridge populations, 1,800 people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV) and 650 orphan and vulnerable children (OVC). Sankalp (2003 to 2013) funded by Bills and Melinda Gates Foundation, the first scaled up targeted intervention project for sex workers, MSM and Transgender populations. The project is and aims to reduce STI, increase condom use among sex workers and MSM T and community Mobilization of FSW and MSM-T to participate in an ownership to address activities related to reducing risk and vulnerabilities to HIV which encompasses Violence, stigma and discrimination.The project is being implemented in partnership with NGOs and CBOs.
