AchieveMents: Opening of Anganwadi
The notified/de-notified tribal community which is located at Okhla Modh on mehrauli-Badarpur road. We started to work with the NT/DNT families since 2014 where we mainly worked on issues of child health and nutrition. In which we found that there no any Anganwadi Centre was opened. At that time 45 (M-19, F-26) children were out of ICDS coverage. Those children were not covered under any ICDS project. Hence we sent a letter to the Department of Women and Child Development on 18-08-2014 for opening an anganwadi centre so that the children may get their entitlements. Hereafter an anganwadi centre was opened on 14th November 2014.
Linking of NT/DNT Community to Primary Health Centre to access primary health care services
The NT/DNT families was lesser aware about the health institution. They used to access private hospitals or quack health experts. There economic condition is not good so they cannot afford expensive health care services. Due to this also the home deliveries ratio was high. In the beginning of our work with the NT/DNT community (in 2014), we linked 5 pregnant women with the Primary Health Centre located in Lal Kuan. Thereafter we communicated with the Medical Officer to add the NT/DNT families in their area map so that the people can access better health services. The MO was agreed for the same and asked to the ANM for survey in NT/DNT area. Afterward the ANM started to visit in the area for immunization and health services at the door step of NT/DNT families. An ASHA worker has also appointed for these NT/DNT families.
Immunization and Birth Registration becomes Sustainable
The awareness about child vaccination in intervention areas of Matri Sudha goes back to 2003 when we started awareness and services for polio vaccination. The status of child immunization started improving over the years through sustained awareness and work with the community. Our data suggests that between 2012 to 2015, cent percent children below one year were linked with both immunization process and to get birth registration certificate. Now the major role is played by ASHA workers who are the frontline health workers in the community.
