OMCAR Foundation Key Issues and Operational Areas, Major Activiities & Achivements

AchieveMents: 1. 15 acres of mangrove forest are regenerated through community based ecological mangrove restoration methods with Tamil Nadu Forest Department. 2. Crab productivity is increased in the restored mangrove forest area, which is used by local fishers to catch mud crabs. 3. 30,000 mangrove seedlings were planted in last four years through women self help groups 4. 25,000 timber valued, avenue and fruit yielding tree seedlings were distributed to villages for free of cost 5. 15 coastal schools have been organized for environmental education events, LCD presentations, mangrove ecology field trips in the last four years 6. Ten Coastal cleanup programmes were conducted with students in the last four years. 7. Rare, endemic and medicinal plants were planted in five village temples to protect their survival 8. Six thousand tree seedlings were produced by student nursery programme in one year. 9. Grassroot land use pattern map is being produced using GIS technology and donated to coastal village Panchayats.
