AchieveMents: Ramakrishna Miision Tuberculosis Sanatorium, P.O. RK Sanatorium, Ranchi-835221 is one of the branch centres of the Ramakrishna Mission having its headquarters at Belur Math, Howrah-711202(W.B.). The Ramakrishna Mission was registered on the 4th May, 1909 under ACT XXI of 1860, Registration no. 1917/3for 1909-10. Revised according to West Bengal ACT XXVI of 1961. The objectives of the Association as per the extracts from the memorandum of association of the Ramakrishna Mission are: (a)To ompart and promote the study of Vedanta and its principles as propounded by Sri Ramakrishna and practically illustratedby his own life and Comparative Theology in its widest form (b)To establish, maintain, carry on and assist schools, colleges, universities, research institutions, libraries, auditoriums, orphanages, workshops, laboratories, hospitals, dispensaries, houses for the aged, infirm, the invalid and the afflicted, relief and rehabilitation works, and any other educational, medical, cultural and social welfare service activities and training institutions and charitable works and institutions of a like nature (c)To take up development and general welfare actvities for the benefit for underprivileged,backward,tribal people of the society without any discrimination.
Activities: At a time when there was hardly any scope for treatment of Tuberculosis in our country, the Ramakrishna Mission Tuberculosis Sanatorium, Ranchi came into being in 1951 rurally in the Ranchi district of Jharkhand with the initiative of Dr Rajendra Prasad, the first President of Republic India. Since its inception the institution has been dedicated to the service of the tribal/adivasi people from more than 600 surrounding villages.
150-beds hospital exclusively for TB patients under the concepts of Sanatorium & method of treatment for Tuberculosis:Since its inception the institution has been serving tuberculosis patients all across the country. The method of treatment here is based on Anti-tuberculosis treatment (ATT) which includes ensuring properand weight-related drug intake to avoid MDR TB, daily monitoring of all physical & bio-chemical parameters to exclude side effects as well as ensuring their effectiveness for each patient & providing balanced nutritious diet.
50-beds hospital for general patients & OPD: OPD offers treatment for TB as well as other ailments with departments of: general medicine,pulmonology,radiology, ultra-sonography,pathology,gynecology & obstetrics,minor surgery,eye, orthopedics,pediatric,dentistry with general & cosmetic surgery, ENT, dermatology,physiotherapy,homeopathy and ayurveda. Number of patients treated on an average per year are TB-7500, Non-TB-25,000, Homeopathy-3600 & Ayurvedic-250.
Mobile Medical Unit(MMU): The centre runs a Mobile Medical Unit thrice a weekthriughout the year covering 600 villages. The OPD & MMU together have been extending medical coverage, in addition to treatment of tuberculosis, to more than half a million people over the last decade. In addition, the centre regularly organises a number of free sopecial medical camps, in the remote villages throughout the year and other rural developmental works.
