AchieveMents: A BRIEF HISTORY Started in June 2003 with 20 students, 5 teachers & volunteers Started Therapy center in 2006 – free therapy for all disabled children in ponicherry Number of beneficiaries for the therapy center till March 2009 - 104 children Started Computer aided education in 2007 – 40 children have been trained to use computers independently Started Early intervention center in June 2008 – 20 children in the age group of 0-6 yrs - of which 3 have been included into normal schools Hydrotherapy – started in August 2008 – 10 children are given this therapy Vocational training was started in June 2003 – with 10 children , now we run 4 courses of 10 children each – coir, carpentry, embroidery & hand made paper products. Coir mat weaving – launched in June 2008 - 49 adults have been trained till May 2009 Art Therapy & Mask therapy sessions for Autistic children started for 15 children in Feb 2009 As on June 2009, The school has 114 children, 25 teachers, 3 thearpist, 4 assistants and 10 volunteers PROPOSED NEW INITIATIVES FOR THE YEAR 2009 – 2010 Medical bank for epileptic children – free supply of medicines for 50 children for a year Sheltered workshop for women adult disabled – Sustainable livelihood project Mobile therapy van – community based rehabilitation project Improving health & nutrition level of 50 disabled children in the age of 0- 6 yrs – multi vitamins, nutritional supplements, iron supplements etc.
