AchieveMents: We have been able to organize the underprivileged communities of the rural areas of W.B., Jharkhand and Orissa in a systematic & planned way for alternative sustainable development of their own locale in a participatory process. (We have formed 9 well-structured POs, formation of nine other POs is in progress) We have capacitated them for conservation, preservation and sustainable utilization of local natural resources based on their proficiency, knowledge and experience Women are taking decision both in their family and social matter. Along with economic amelioration, collective leadership, analytical skill, problem solving ability, cooperative attitude and decision making power have been developed among the womenââ¬â¢s groups. We have been able to encourage the rural marginalized communities to speak out for their Rights & Entitlements, which are being threatened and eroded due to unrestrained market economy We have been able to motivate numerous development organizations to engage the anti-globalization struggle being waged by the people in different regions of western Orissa and east Jharkhand. Our endeavor for the sustainable agriculture to preserve food security, has been able to revive several ancestral seeds and varieties of rice and vegetables (such as baskathi, khayrashol, moulata, govirponkoj, sabita, morichshal) Farming communities, who were previously dependant on chemical fertilizers and pesticides have started using organic manures, which has been promoted by our organizers About 459 families have excavated pond in their land and are getting the benefit of both fish cultivation and kitchen garden in the adjoining areas. 10-20 % migration could be checked as a result of ensured livelihood option. In the gram sansad meetings the members of POs are raising their voice for different development action in the vicinity The villagers are now fighting against social evils that are directly linked with social unrest due to inequality & lack of education. They have led movements against illicit country liquor den, dowry and bride torture, wife beating by drunk husbands. Our intervention has reduced women and child trafficking by 30% in our working area close to the international border facing Bangladesh. About 35 adolescent girls, who were trafficked, have been rehabilitated Local traditional myths and beliefs regarding health & hygiene are being obliterated to a great extent. 5 homeopathy clinics are running successfully and, on an average 4300 villagers are being treated annually 68 Non-formal education centers including one residential school function successfully, where about 2030 learners were benefited every year. 2256 Self Help Groups (SHGs) have been formed, the members of which are mainly women. Rural people are becoming conscious about the water as a right rather than services We have extended our support to 42 grassroots and medium level development organizations to spread the idea of alternative development process. They are now taking follow-up actions in their respective areas. 414 VOs/ NGOs/ Networks have been capacitated to make their efforts more congruent to the contextual need and to make them more competent for addressing the issues
