AchieveMents: Tamana has been providing rehabilitative services to children with autism, mental and multiple disabilities since 1984. Children with special needs are provided a holistic developmental education-which includes special education, life skills training and vocational training- to effect optimum adult rehabilitation. Its contribution in the field of disability was recognized by the United Nations that granted it Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council
Twenty five years ago, the Tamana started from a small shed with 4 students. Presently, Tamana Association has hundreds of students between ages of 4 years to 30 years enrolled in its three Delhi branches- School of Hope, Tamana Special School and Nai Disha Vocational Centre. The services provided by Tamana are:
1) Special Education services are provided in two centre of Tamana
a)School of Hope( ph:26153474). It is the junior school of Tamana and caters to age groups from birth to 12 years.
B)Tamana Special School(ph: 26151572) It is the Middle level school that caters to students between the age group 11 to18 Yrs.
2) Vocational and Prevocational Training are provided at
ï¶ Nai Disha Vocational Training Center (ph: 26151587) Nai Disha is a place that offers opportunities for its adults and adolescents from age 18 year onwards to acquire dignity and self respect. Besides special education, other services provided are:

4) Early Intervention Programme for ages 6 months to 5 years
5) Home Programme: Differently abled children from different corners of India avail the services of Tamana through its out reach programme.
6) Residential Programme for boys between ages 10 to 20 years
7) Formal Education through National Open School
8) Awareness Generation through newsletters and organising conference and workshops. Tamana has organised two international conferences on autism and two international workshops on issues related to autism.
9 )Manpower Development in field of Disability: Tamana is running two courses: B. Ed in Special Education of IGNOU and Diploma in Autism Spectrum Disorders ( RCI recognised courses) .
10) Education of the under privileged children of society. Tamana is optimally utilising its resources to extend benefits to the largest population possible. It is running two programmes for preschool children living in neighbourhood slums. This is very special endeavour by Tamana to reach out to the children from lower strata of society and make optimum utilization of its facilities .The two programmes are:
a. Tamana Kindergarten: An afternoon preschool catering to children in the age group of 2 and 6 years.
b. School on Wheels: School on Wheels was started to provide free primary education at the doorsteps of slum children.
11) Sports for the Disabled Special School Sports Council of India: A national level sports council to provide mentally challenged, autistic and multiply disabled children in rural as well as urban areas opportunities for participation in sports and adventure activities has been set up. The council has as its members, special schools and special education professionals, from all nooks and corners of India.
12) Research Tamana has a technical collaboration for research with the Autism Centre, University of Washington, U.S.A. Current research being conducted at Tamana are in the areas of sensory integration, alternative medicine and applied behaviour analysis.
