The Western Women Development Association Key Issues and Operational Areas, Major Activiities & Achivements

AchieveMents: Details of Achievement Major Activities/Achievement : (Not more than 500 words). The Western Development Women Association is now promoting its activities at some villages of Imphal West District. The name of village are 1. Ngairangbam 2. Khumbong 3. Awang Khunou 4. Tairenpokpi 5. Atong Khuman. The NGO is helping a maximum of more than 100 houslholds into their livelihood with management of income generation sources as possible as its capacity in the field of food processing unit a home, promotion of vegetable vendor, tailoring and agarbathi making unit etc. Beginning its activities in welfare programmes as HIV/AIDS , awareness for rural health, skill development activities and other activities related in traditional arts and cultures, the Association seeks its point of action for the welfare of the Rural women in people’s participation which can involve the need of the welfare with conservation of eco-system and eco-resource such as programmes on social forestry for planting different species, programmes on agricultural land management to produce various kinds of agricultural crops in winter and vegetables. The Association gave awareness campaign programme for social upliftment in helath and for the welfare of the small children. The The Western Women Development Associationorganized programmes in health relation education programme, programme for disabled women, programme for 45 days life skill education Programme, other socially oriented awareness programmes such as women and child welfare programme, research and analysis for social issues, commercial sex worker welfare programme, IDUS,MSM Targetted intervention programme, Dru De-addiction Welfare Programme, widows welfare and development progaramme etc. The Association also have organized some skill development vocational training programmes such as 3-months computer training programme which was conducted at its project area in the month of October to December 2007 . The Western Women Development Association and its staffs always share the action of coordination through meetings at the project villages with teir respective Gram Panchayats. The NGO also established some small based people’s participatory programmes as a part of influe3nce in social action for a creative life at the project village of Imphal West District. The Programmes ae as follows- Aged Welfare Programme, Disabilities Welfare Programme, capacity building and training in various trade, sports development programme etc. All the above programmes are organized as orientation and mom-residentaial camps at some spots of the project areas for about 5-6 days only. In addition of the above activities the Western Women Development Association have achieved the organization of Self Help Group to meet each other year by year. There are more 5 SHGs within the jurisdiction of this association. At present, the Association is preparing programme calender at which the type of activities to be implemented from the finding agencies. The Western Women Development Association is creating a sense of belongingness in broad and collected efforts to bring greater creditability to the degraded villages as a whole. Besides these the Association is taking up needful action for attracting greater in the financial and other forms of support from the funding agencies and doners. More over, the The Western Women Development Associationis creating a role of productive programmes in many activities to the women SHGs so as to maintain themselves in their village livelihoods. (H.
