AchieveMents: Vikram A Sarabhai Community Science Centre is a pioneering community science centre which aims to nurture young minds and mould them towards scientific thinking The techniques adopted by the Centre help in making the process of enquiry and earning an enjoyable and lasting experience Origin of the Centre One of Indias most renowned scientists Dr Vikram A Sarabhai had laid the foundation of the institute in the year 1966 to foster scientific temper thinking and innovative science teaching Facilities at the Centre The Centre has well equipped science maths and computer laboratories library workshop science playground quadrangle and auditorium VASCSC is the proud recipient of National Award for Outstanding Efforts in Science and Technology Communication 2008 awarded by Rashtriya Vigyan Evam Prodyogiki Sanchar Parishad Department of Science and Technology Glimpses of VASCSCs activities The Centre has been unique in combining non formal and formal techniques to ensure better understanding of science and mathematics It plays an active role in education and reaches to communities through inquiry experiment media etc Besides it has pioneered several concepts in India such as open and maths laboratory interactive exhibition space science playground and served as a role model for the foundation of other science centers in the country The centre develops teaching learning aids kits publications science communication materials interactive exhibits It also helps in setting up laboratories and science activity centres in schools In the past it has been instrumental in curricular development for schools in science School Science programme Schools and students all over Gujarat and other parts visit the Centre They are initiated into activity based learning through science shows demonstrations science hands on science and maths labs for better understanding Guidance for Projects & Practicals The Centre guides students to prepare syllabus based projects and perform practicals under the guidance of our experts Annual Programmes Spread over an academic session Centre offers several interesting science programmes for children to pursue their interest in science Summer Programmes Offered during summer vacation these are designed in a manner to initiate children into different streams of science maths and computers Outreach Programmes The Centre conducts several activities trainings workshops exhibitions events for schools and communities in all parts of the country to explain the science and mathematics concepts through our own TLMs and publications Capacity Building Centre conducts teachers trainings & workshops in science hands on and maths lab It also organizes workshops for the students in Model Rocketry etc Sciencexpress Sciencexpress with four national records is a state of the art science exhibition on a unique train traveling across India A joint Indo German pathway to discovery the Sciencexpress was launched by the Department of Science & Technology Govt of India and Max Planck society Germany and is managed by the Centre all over the country During its journey so far the Sciencexpress has traveled over 32000 km in 400 days covering over 100 cities and has received over 35 lakh visitors More details on www sciencexpress in
