AchieveMents: The VKIC aims to peruse, preserve, and promote the indigenous cultures of Indiaââ¬â¢s North East. It concentrates on the precious knowledge and values contained within the native cultures of the region, revealing the unifying elements which create the magnificent mosaic of people and their ways of life, their beliefs, traditions, and customs. VKIC carries out this work through research and documentation of different communities, bringing to light the social and anthropological issues in them. Its activities support communities to strengthen their cultural roots, appreciate, and sustain their timeless traditional knowledge and belief systems. To achieve its aims VKIC organizes lectures, seminars, workshops in its own complex and also in others parts of the Northeast. Apart from its centre in Guwahati, its New Delhi and Arunachal Pradesh Chapters also play host to similar activities. It has successfully carried out field investigations, collected significant facts and information, some of which have been published in books and journals. Research and documentation has focused on Kamakhya, Adi, Rabha, Nyishi, Theravadi Buddhism, Dimasa, Sattra institution of Assam, to name a few. Due to its path breaking work in Northeast India, the institute has emerged as a major think tank in the sphere of cultural studies. It has built and sustained ties with intellectuals, researchers and organisations, which have resulted in a better appreciation of the ancient communities and cultures of the region.
