AchieveMents: Voluntary Action for the Rural Reconstruction (VARR), a not for profit voluntary organisation registered in 1993 under the Societies Registration Act of 1860 and under FCRA Act. During the last Fifteen years the organization received public and office support and cooperation to materialize its dream of making the rural community self sustaining and progressive. Its innovation in organization building to facilitate participatory intervention proved successful and recognized by different offices and dignitaries. VARR has proved to be a promoter of Organisations of the target groups. 185 Women Self Help Groups involving 2100 women individual members (SHGs) have been formed and strengthened to empower the rural poor women mass. VARR organized different skill development and entrepreneurship training programmes in partnership with NABARD, CAPART and Government of Orissa and introduced micro finance activities. Community participation in Joint Forest Management and environment conservation emphasized by VARR got the recognition from district and state offices. In health sector, VARR actively participated in different programmes sponsored by the Govt. of India and collaborated with the district health department to make the events successful. Starting from immunization programmes to malaria prevention activities, VARR with partnership with NRHM, Orissa provided two nos of vehicle for Zanani Express to carry the pregnant women for safe institutional delivery at the hospitals and to carry the neonates for necessary treatment and provided thematic training to ASHAs. Technology transfer in collaboration with Krishi Vigyana Kendra and OUAT, Bhubaneswar is a regular activity and to this effect a number of training cum demonstration programmes has been organized.Major Achievements Provided Entrepreneurship Training to 420 nos Rural Women Transportation facilities for Institutional delivery provided to 1500 nos of pregnant women through Janai Express Distributed 7010 impregnated Mosquitonet Provided Irrigation facilities to 500 acres of land Facilitated 185 Self Help Groups 250 youth have been trained in different trade like Bamboo craft, tailoring, Dhocracasting Pressed leaf cup and plate making Training provided to 723 nos Students on Environment and Sanitation Programme Agriculture Training and Exposure visits provide to 600 nos of farmers Provided training to 144 nos PRI members on NREGA Training provided on AIDS to 320 nos of youth Training provided to 2334 nos SHGs Leaders on various Income Generation Programme.VARR has been honored as the Best Non Govt Organisation for its contribution to the global success of the International Year of Volunteers from United Nations UNO in 2001 Received the Best Self Help Promotion Institute of the District The Pragati Farmers Club facilitated by VARR received the Best Performing Farmer Club in the state of Orissa from Dr P Chidambaram Honourable Finance Minister of India on behalf of NABARD for the year 2004 05 The Regional Office NABARD Awarded Sabuja Farmers Club of VARR as the best Farmers Club of the state of Orissa for the year 2007 08
