AchieveMents: Community Health: The community health programme under EZE Germany was taken up from 1998 to 2003 in the rural areas of Thoubal district with 2 medical officers, 3 multipurpose health workers and 50 village level health workers. The 2 medical officers and the 3 multipurpose health workers were attached to the office and the 50 village level health workers were posted in their respective villages. The 50 VLHWs were imparted adequate training by the 2 doctors and 3 multipurpose health workers related to hygiene education, control of diarrhea, prevention of communicable diseases, and preparation of medicine from local herbal plants and first aid for different accidents. The organization from time to time organized HIV/AIDS Awareness camps in different villages of Thoubal district with the involvement of village women associations. Environment Conservation: With a view to prevent environmental degradation and promote ecological system the WWAGS after giving full awareness and mobilizing the villagers of Laijing Minou S/T village had planted 10000 trees of different kinds in 10 hectares of community own land with their involvement in 1964 in Chandel district with the financial assistance from CEBEMO-Netherland. In 1996, 10000 trees at Aihang S/T village in 10 hectares, 10000 at Purum Khullen S/T village in 10 hectares and 5000 at Kajiphung S/T Village in 5 hectares of Chandel district had been planted with the active participation of the Construction of Low Cost Latrines: 1500 Low Cost Latrines, 500 under EZE, Germany in 1997, 400 under AECI, pazy Coopercion, Spain in 2001, 300 in 1994 under CAPART and 300 in 2000 under UNDP/WAPCOS (INDIA) Ltd More than 11,000 people are getting benefit under this programme INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF OLDER PERSONS 1999: International year of Older Persons 1999ââ¬Â was celebrated under UN Programme at Wangjing Kodompokpi Lampak on 22nd December 1999 in honour of the United Nations Declaration with the main objectives of towards a society for all ages. In this auspicious and colourful celebration, Shri Ved Prakash Marwah, His Excellency, the Governor of Manipur; Shri K.K. Chhetry, the Deputy Commissioner of Thoubal district and Smt. T. Maimu Devi, President of WWAGS had graced as Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and President respectively.The celebration was attended by 350 grannies from 7 Day Care Centres and 50 grannies from Adopt-A-Granny Centre. In addition, the celebration was fulfilled with the participation of Smt. Kamal Marwah, Lady Governor, distinguished scholars, heads of Govt. Departments, Media Persons, Chief Functionaries of NGOs, Security Personnel, child artistes, local women presenters and other outstanding gentlemen and ladies of local institutions and others. Area Water Partnership workshop at Imphal: The workshop was organized from 28 to 30 December, 2005 at Hotel Excellency, Imphal, Manipur funded by India Water Partnership (NIAS), Bangalore and participated by 40 participants from different leading NGOs of 9 districts of Manipur. The inaugural function was graced by Shri Francis Ngazokpa, Honââ¬â¢ble Minister, Edn (S) ââ¬â Higher & Tech. Edn/SCERT/Adult Education, Govt. of Manipur and Shri Dr. M. Nara Singh, Honââ¬â¢ble MLA, Ex-Minister, Arts and Culture, Govt of Manipur as the Chief Guest and President respectively. The workshop was facilitated by 12 resource persons on different topics and the participants got the concept paper availed prepared by the resource persons. There was also interactive session during the workshop. On the last day a steering committee consisting of 11 members was formed with L. Suva Kumar, General Secretary of WWAGS as the convener for follow up action plan. NEIZWP workshop at Guwahati, Assam: A two-day workshop on Establishing & Strengthening of North East India Zonal Water Partnership (NEIZWP) was organized by WWAGS, Wangjing, Manipur on 10 and 11 September 2007 at National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD), North Eastern Regional Centre (NERC), Khanapara, Guwahati under the sponsorship of Global Water Partnership (GWP)/ India Water Partnership (IWP).The workshop was opened by Dr. M. Nara Singh, former Minister of Science Technology & Environment, Govt. of Manipur as the Chairman. The workshop was participated by 42 representatives from various NGOs working in different disciplines of 8 states of North East India and 7 resource persons, some from NIAS Bangalore, some from CapNet India, Bhubaneswor and some from Guwahati. There was interactive session about the related issues discussed in the workshop. During the workshop a Governing Body consisting of 9 members including a co-opted member representing from 8 NE states was formed with its Zonal Secretariat at Imphal which will be the apex authority in all related issues in close co-ordination with IWP. All the Governing Body members are state co-ordinators of their respective states. Pump sets for agriculture: 10 pump sets were purchased in 1989 funded by EZE-Germany for agriculture and filling up the village community tanks and private tanks with water by drawing from the nearby rivers. One pump set covered 3 to 4 villages and the village women associations were responsible for allocation and movement of the pump sets from one village to another village. Construction of Innovative Houses: 28 Low Cost Innovative houses under the scheme of Innovative Stream for Housing and Habitat Development financed by CAPART (under the aegis of Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India), New Delhi were constructed in 2006-2007. 14 houses were constructed in 3 hill villages of Chandel district and 14 in 6 villages of Thoubal district for those who are below poverty line. Work for Food programme : Under work for food programme, funded by AECI, Pazy Coopercion, Spain, the WWAGS introduced ââ¬ÅSloping Agricultural Land Technology (SALT) in 13 villages ââ¬â 11 villages in Chandel district and 2 villages in Thoubal district in the year 1999-2000 by digging contour trenches, making contour bunds and planting agricultural crops in between contour intervals. This programme covered 260 acres of land at the average of 20 acres per village. Under this programme 90 women partners had been given loan from Rs. 5,000/- to 10,000/-; 51 women refugee partners of 5 villages of Chandel district and 39 partners of 5 villages of Thoubal district in the year 2000-2001 for planting vegetables and other crops. After the completion of one year the loanees repaid their outstanding with interest. And the collected amount was given to other partners as revolving system. Mushroom cultivation-under this programme with the construction of 40 mushroom poly houses was taken up in 8 villages ââ¬â 3 villages in Thoubal district and 5 villages in Chandel district in the year 2000-01. This programme benefited 80 women partners directly and 160 women partners indirectly. For Kharif and Rabi crop, 25 partners were given Kharif loan @ Rs. 4,000/- per partner and 26 partners for Rabi crop loan @ Rs. 4,000/- per partner in the year 2000-2001 funded by AECI, Pazy Cooperacion, Spain. It was a revolving system implemented in touch with 7 village women associations for economic development of the rural farmers. Total Literacy Campaign (TLC): From 1st September 1998 to 31st August 2000 out of 21525 learners from 11 to 35 years of age group 19892 were made neo-literates in 12 Gram Panchayats and 2 Nagar Panchayats of Thoubal district under the financial assistance from Ministry of human Resource Development, Govt. of India, New Delhi, in 3 phases. For 21525 learners (i.e. 8538 males and 12987 females) 2152 volunteers and 43 master Trainers were engaged at the ratio of 1:10 and 1:50.The WWAGS is the only one in the North Eastern Region to have received the Prestigious UNESCO-NLM-Award 1998 in recognition of the outstanding services in the field of Adult Education conferred by FEDERICO MAYOR (Director General ââ¬â UNESCO) and Dr. Muruli Manahar Joshi, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India, New Delhi. Installation of Solar Cell device: A set of solar cell device was installed at Komnao, an island village at Pumlenpat in Kakching CD Block in 1998 under EZE-Germany and it gave solar light to 36 houses. Construction of Craftsmanship building: A semi pucca craftsmanship building having the size of 85 ft. in length, 18 ft in breadth and 18 ft. in height was constructed in 1992 at Thongjao S/C village with a kiln a little far apart from the craftsmanship building for coiled pottery financed by Ministry of Textile, Govt. of India. In this centre different types of earthen wares which are used daily in every house of Manipur are made.
